Dallas Mavericks Acquire Daniel Gafford in Trade

The Dallas Mavericks have made a pair of trades before Thursday's deadline, acquiring center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards and sending forward Cason Wallace to the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gafford, 24, is one of the NBA's top shot blockers this season, averaging 2.2 blocks per game. He is also a solid rebounder, averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. Gafford should provide a much-needed boost to the Mavericks' defense, which has struggled at times this season.

In exchange for Gafford, the Mavericks sent Wallace, the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, to the Thunder.

Wallace, 19, is a 6-foot-4 guard who was considered one of the best defensive prospects in the draft. He is a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.

Wallace has struggled to find consistent playing time with the Mavericks this season, averaging just 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. A change of scenery could be good for Wallace, who has the potential to be a solid contributor in the NBA.
