Whats The Story

Newcastle set to terminate contract with permanent move ‘close’ - Sky Sports

What's the story?

Newcastle United are reportedly set to terminate the contract of defender Emil Krafth, with a permanent move to another club ‘close’. The 28-year-old Sweden international has struggled for game time at St James’ Park since joining from Amiens in 2019, and is now surplus to requirements under Eddie Howe.

Why is Krafth leaving?

Krafth has made just 58 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, and has fallen down the pecking order at right-back behind Kieran Trippier and Javier Manquillo. The defender is keen to play more regular football, and Newcastle are willing to let him leave in order to free up space in their squad.

Where could Krafth go?

According to Sky Sports, Krafth is attracting interest from several clubs in England and abroad. A return to Sweden has been mooted, with AIK and Hammarby both said to be keen on signing him. Krafth could also remain in the Premier League, with Wolves and Southampton said to be monitoring his situation.

What does the future hold for Newcastle?

Newcastle are likely to be busy in the transfer market this summer, as they look to build on their impressive second half of the 2021/22 season. The Magpies are expected to strengthen their squad in several areas, including at right-back. Norwich City’s Max Aarons is one player who has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.
